Skin Care For The Chinese Crested

Knowledge of skin care for the Chinese Crested is essential. The Hairless Chinese Crested is virtually without hair except on its head (the crest), feet (socks) and tail (plume).  The Hairy Hairless variation has a little more hair than the hairless and may have a soft down or sparse hair growth on the body.  The Powder Puff is completely covered with hair.

The skin care for the Hairless Chinese Crested and the Hairy Hairless will differ from the skin care needed for the Powder Puff Chinese Crested. The book, “A New Owner’s Guide to Chinese Crested” by Joseph Rachunas, is an excellent source for additional skin care for the Chinese Crested variations.  There are also a number of other books about the Chinese Crested you can purchase:

The skin care for the Hairless Chinese Crested and the Hairy Hairless Chinese Crested is relatively basic.  They do need frequent baths and moisturizing to control skin problems since they are mostly hairless.  These variations of the Chinese Crested are susceptible to blackheads and pimples. Yes, they suffer from acne.

Also, allergies may affect your regimen of skin care for the Chinese Crested. Many are allergic to wool and products with lanolin in them. Be cautious of bright sunlight.  Just like humans, they may get sunburned.  There are products that are without lanolin for acne, allergies and sunburn that can be used in the skin care for the Chinese Crested.

The Powder Puff Chinese Crested is completely covered with hair.  It does not shed either.  It has a double coat that is soft, silky and straight and may grow very long.  There is still the susceptibility to sunburn if the Powder Puff hair and the skin is fair.  Although their skin is very sensitive too, there is not as much skin care required for the Chinese Crested Powder Puff unless it has been groomed to expose the skin. Hair Care for the Chinese Crested

Although skin care for the Chinese Crested is necessary, one cannot forget that these dogs do have some hair.  The little bit of hair on the Hairless and Hairy Hairless is soft and silky.  This hair is straight and may grow very long.

As with some skin care for the Chinese Crested, like bathing, they don’t always like the hair grooming process.  Their skin is sensitive and the process especially interferes with their playtime.  You should start combing the hair when they are puppies so they will get into the habit of grooming. Not only are there products for the skin care for the Chinese Crested, there are hair products that can make the grooming process easier.  Click here to receive outstanding savings on dog supplies. The Powder Puff, however, does need more grooming.  The silky undercoat may tend to mat and should be combed daily.  Be cautious when using skin care products on your the Powder Puff since they could affect the amount of matting.  However, there are hair products that can make the grooming process less troublesome and should also be compatible with the skin care products for the Chinese Crested.
