Avail Pets provides information about unique breeds of pets. Currently, the information is concentrated on Chinese Crested dogs, Maine Coon cats and the Sugar Glider. There will be additional information provided on these topics as well as information provided about other unique pets on an ongoing basis. There are a number of books written about the Chinese Crested dog, Maine Coon cat and Sugar Glider. Here are a few that I recommend: The Chinese Crested is a dog that has recently begun to gain in popularity. It is unique in that one version of the breed essentially hairless. The Hairless Chinese Crested does have hair on it's crest, tail and socks. There is also the Powder Puff Chinese Crested that has a full coat, but may be born in the same litter as the most hairless of the litter. Really! I think that it's a pretty dog with it's elegant lines and long, flowing hairstyle. They're cool, too, because their playfulness belies their elegant look and they are really affectionate and smart. The Maine Coon cats are unique in that they are VERY large. The Maine Coon can weigh up to 25 pounds and can be as long as 40 inches. That's longer than a yard. BIG cats, right? Although they may grow to be huge cats, they don't seem to outgrow their playfulness. Considering their size, the kittenish playfulness make them often seem goofy. But, that's just another thing to love about this breed of cat. The Sugar Glider is another unique and interesting pet. What makes it so unusual is that it is a marsupial (it carries its young in a stomach pouch) and they have membranes attached to their wrists and ankle that allow them to almost seem to fly. The Sugar Glider is fairly easy to take care of and may live for up to 12 years. This adorable pet is affectionate and verbose (talkative) It adapts well to humas and develops strong bonds with its human family.
